Community Guidelines

We Value Respect ProductBC is an open and inclusive environment with a diverse community of product professionals and leaders. ProductBC promotes positivity and recognizes and celebrates the creativity and collaboration of independent members and the diversity of skills, talents, experiences, cultures, and opinions that they bring to our community. We expect our members to treat all individuals respectfully, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), career path, or any other trait we have failed to mention. We value respectful behaviour above individual opinions. Respectful behaviour includes but is not limited to:

  • Be considerate, kind, constructive, and helpful.

  • Avoid demeaning, discriminatory, harassing, hateful, or physically threatening behaviour, speech, and imagery.

  • If you’re not sure if your behaviour is appropriate, ask a Moderator. We’d rather hear directly from you than hear about something negative you said or did after the fact.

  • Be a role model, not a bystander. Demonstrate respectful behaviour and help to address disrespect when you see it.

Disrespectful behaviour by members within and outside of any communication channel or event may be considered a violation of this Code of Conduct at the discretion of the Moderators. You can bring notice of violating this code of conduct within the 🔒[private feed] channel. Privacy Certain ProductBC communication channels, including the Slack workspace, are not public spaces. Since we do not require a non-disclosure agreement (“NDA”) to participate, you should presume anything you say or post could become public so act accordingly. Protect Intellectual Property and legally-protected information. If you want to publicly disclose anything that was posted or discussed on private communication channels, including the Slack group, use the Chatham House Rule as a guideline (“participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed”). For attribution of specific content found within ProductBC programs and forums, we ask that you ask the originator of the content for permission. Commercial Activity ProductBC is a not-for-profit association. We have dedicated places for commercial activity such as recruiting and marketing (e.g. Slack 🔒[private feed] channel) and you should not solicit commercial activity outside of these. Slack channels approved for commercial activity:

  • 🔒[private feed]

If you join this community to just sell things and not contribute and learn, the community and Moderators will quickly notice. Any activity should be approached from the perspective of adding value to the group, rather than for commercial gain unless it’s approved by a Moderator. Resolve Issues Peacefully We believe peer-to-peer discussions, feedback, and corrections can help build a stronger, safer, and more welcoming community. If you see someone violating any part of this Code of Conduct, we urge you to respectfully dissuade them from such behaviour. Expect that others in the community wish to help keep the community respectful and welcome your input in doing so. If you experience disrespectful behaviour toward yourself or anyone else and feel unable to respond or resolve it respectfully (for any reason), please immediately bring it to the attention of a Moderator. We want to hear from you about anything that you feel is disrespectful, threatening, or just something that could make someone feel distressed in any way. We will listen and work to resolve the matter. Apologize for Mistakes Should you catch yourself behaving disrespectfully, or be confronted as such, listen intently, own up to your words and actions, and apologize accordingly. No one is perfect, and even well-intentioned people make mistakes. What matters is how you handle them and that you avoid repeating them in the future. Consequences If you are unable to resolve a situation peacefully, please contact a Moderator who will determine a course of action that suits the situation. If a Moderator determines that an individual is violating any part of this Code of Conduct, they may take any action that they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion and exclusion from ProductBC and all associated communication channels. Moderators will seek to resolve conflicts peacefully and in a manner that is positive for the community. Moderators can’t foresee every situation. If a Moderator deems the best course of action is to remove the disrespectful individual, they will do so. Thank-you Thank you to every ProductBC member and ProductBC Slack group member for helping to make ProductBC the respectful and inclusive community that it is.
